Second G8-BMENA partnership-related seminar: "The BMENA Region: Basic
Trends in Education, Economics, and Politics,and the General Prospects
of the Region", St.Petersburg, 26-27 of October 2006.
The seminar is arranged by the Oriental Studies Department of the
St.Petersburg State University. The speakers include a number of
prominent experts on the Middle East and African Studies as well as the
civil society members from Russia, the G8, and the BMENA countries (from
Turkey in particular). A wide range of cultural events is envisaged
within its framework. The expenses for staying in St.Petersburg are
partly covered by the conveners of the seminar. The representatives of the G8-BMENA governmental structures and academic
community are invited to take part in this seminar. We would appreciate
if you could inform thereof the persons and the academic institutions in
your countries that might be interested in participating in this event.
Themes:
1. EDUCATION
– Development of the education system in the Middle East under
informational globalization.
– Vocational education and training, building up of educational
programmes.
– Humanization and tolerance in educational process. Intercivilizational
and intercultural dialogue as conceptual components of the modern
education.
2. POLITICS
– Citizens’ participation in the civil society formation, and holding of
free elections in the BMENA countries.
– The impact of telecommunication and the mass media on the government
civil society dialogue.
– Women’s participation in political and social life. Experiences of
Russia and the BMENA countries.
3. ECONOMICS
– Modern technologies, and small and medium-sized businesses as a basis
of the economic development in the BMENA.
– Microenterprize and microfinance in the context of establising the
regional network of funds.
– Small and medium-sized enterprize management in the BMENA: common
features and regional specificity.
